TaxManager from CCH, scooped the top award in the Best Tax Software category of the prestigious LexisNexis UK Tax Awards held at the Park Lane Hilton in London last night (25 May).
TaxManager was praised by the judges for 'the breadth of its reporting facilities and its risk assessment capabilities', and was congratulated for 'continuing to develop over the years, offering a reliable platform to tax advisers'.
The proof of the appeal of TaxManager to accountants was born out in 2003, when sales of the product grew 616% thanks to the introduction of a wider range of reports, enhanced customisation options and full compatibility with all the main tax return software packages.
Speaking about the award, Val Murrell, CCH's director of software, said: "We are extremely proud to have won this very competitive award. Following extensive consultation with our clients, we have invested a great deal of time and expertise in enhancing TaxManager to better serve accountants' day-to-day needs. It is very gratifying that those efforts have been publicly recognised."
TaxManager includes three reports designed to simplify the tax adviser's work.
| • | 'Review' checks current tax return information against the previous year's return highlighting the differences between the two. This allows the practice to minimise the risk of errors and significantly reduce the amount of time spent reviewing the return so helping to increase margins. | |
| • | 'Tax planning' is a fully customisable, client-specific tax planning tool. The software looks for potential tax planning opportunities, based on income and outgoings, and a letter to the client can be automatically generated detailing all the relevant options. | |
| • | 'Risk' comprises two elements. | |
| – | 'Risk Assessment' reviews a return in the same way as an Inland Revenue inspector would, enabling the accountant to question any risk areas with clients and reduce the chance of an investigation. The report also has links to two of the most comprehensive investigations services available - CCH British Tax Library and CCH Tax Investigation Reporter - enabling detailed assessment of particular risk points. | |
| – | 'Business Consultancy' allows the accountant to look at a business's performance against trade norms. Quick links into CCH Business Focus allows the user to see whether a client might benefit from additional consultancy services so helping to increase the revenue stream into the practice. | |
